Duck Rescue with a Happy Ending

During the last few days of the Easter holidays, a mother mallard had built a nest in one of our light wells and successfully hatched 11 ducklings.
These were discovered by chance and initially given rearing food. But suddenly the mother duck was missing. Unfortunately, nobody knows why to this day.
Luckily, we have an experienced “bird dad” on our teaching staff, and so the little ducklings were lovingly collected on the very first school day with the help of a group of pupils and moved to a fox-proof enclosure, where they could now grow up safely and splash about. The ducklings, still wild, developed so splendidly that the time had come to set them free on 19 May.

Now they paddle happily and contentedly on a lake in Schwäbisch Hall – or sometimes somewhere else 🙂
