Joint graduation ceremony for Year 9 and Year 10 at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule

„Die Zeit mit Euch war wunderschön! Es ist wohl besser jetzt zu gehen, wir können keine Tränen sehn. Schönen Gruß und auf Wiederseh’n.“

Surrounded by festive flower arrangements, the 121 graduating pupils of the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule will receive their certificates on Friday, 18 July. As in the previous year, the graduates who have passed the Realschul exam and the Hauptschul exam celebrate their achievements together. Their teachers, parents and friends will gather in the Hagenbach-Halle for a varied programme, followed by refreshments.

After a moving musical opening by the school band, led by Markus Schneider, there is a welcome speech, after which pupils from the graduating year groups guide the audience with wit through a programme of music, dance, various speeches and, of course, the presentation of certificates.

„Ihr habt es endlich geschafft! Noch ein letztes Mal müsst ihr einer Lehrkraft zuhören. Erspart es euch, auf die erlösende Klingel zu warten, denn ihr braucht sie ab heute nicht mehr!“ With these words and a little smile, the teachers of the Year 9 classes begin their speech and talk about the many happy experiences they shared. „Denkt mal zurück an die Borrow Ranch mit der gruseligen Nachtwanderung und auch an die Übernachtungen im Wildpark oder im Wintercamp mit viel Spiel und Spaß“, recalls Lisa Jährling, form teacher of class 9f.  Now it is time for the teachers to let go. And so they wish their pupils a great deal of luck, friendship, good health and much more on their onward journey through life. They end their address with a song by the band „Die Toten Hosen“, sung together: „Die Zeit mit Euch war wunderschön! Es ist wohl besser jetzt zu gehen, wir können keine Tränen sehn. Schönen Gruß und auf Wiederseh’n.“

The form teachers of the Year 10 classes also recall shared experiences and congratulate their pupils on passing their exams. They, too, have come up with something very special for their pupils. They show various holiday photos.  Alongside these impressions, they send their best wishes to their pupils. Alexander Enderle, form teacher of class 10c, shows a photograph of a floodlight mast that is barely visible through the many leaves and bushes surrounding it. For him, this photo symbolises  many beautiful moments of light and the necessary „Durchblick im Alltagsdschungel“ (a clear view through the jungle of everyday life). He wishes both of these from the bottom of his heart to his pupils.

The highlight of the ceremony is, finally, the presentation of certificates, for which the young people walk onto the stage to a song of their own choice. Leonie Brandt has achieved the best Realschul certificate with an overall average of 1.6. Liam Pilz can be proud of the best Hauptschul leaving certificate with an average of 1.8. The social award for outstanding social commitment in Year 10 goes to Makayla Bryant. The social award for the Year 9 pupils goes to Elias Miermeister.

After the awards, there is a musical highlight from the Year 10 music profile course, led by Jannis Krämer. The song „Where’d all the time go?“ was worked on in lessons and fits the theme of the evening perfectly. On stage, the pupils were also supported by their form teachers. Together they sang: „Wo ist die ganze Zeit geblieben? Sie beginnt zu verfliegen. Seht, wie unsere Hände zum Abschied winken.“

Then the headteacher, Andrea Fürle, addresses the gathering. She quotes the Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius:  „Das Glück deines Lebens hängt von der Beschaffenheit deiner Gedanken ab.\” This means that the quality of our thoughts largely determines how happy we are in life. She explains that every moment is fleeting, the sad ones as well as the happy ones. After these memorable words, she wishes all graduates every success on their onward journey and thanks them for their time at the school. The ceremony ends with the Coldplay song „Fix You“, performed by the music profile choir, led by Markus Schneider and Jannis Krämer.
