In March and April, a student exchange took place between the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule and the partner school in Lappeenranta as part of the Erasmus Plus program. The focus was on intercultural exchange and promoting awareness of sustainability.
The students from both countries had the opportunity to exchange ideas about their respective cultures and learn from each other. In addition to cultural exchange, the program also focused on the topic of sustainability. The young people addressed the challenges of climate change and considered how they themselves could contribute to environmental protection.
Various workshops and activities on the topic of sustainability were offered during the exchange. For example, a workshop on building seal-friendly fish traps was held in Finland and the students went on a joint hike across the frozen Lake Saimaa.
In Schwäbisch Hall, they then visited the Experimenta in Heilbronn and the Freilandmuseum in Wackershofen. This allowed the pupils to expand their knowledge and gain practical experience in the field of sustainability. The young people will now return to Schwäbisch Hall and Lappeenranta with new knowledge and experience in the field of environmental protection and sustainability.
New friendships were forged and experiences shared. “The student exchange was a complete success and helped to raise awareness of the importance of sustainability and also to grow closer together as Europe,” explains Natalie Brümmer, the accompanying teacher from Schwäbisch Hall. According to the teacher, the success of the student exchange could also be seen in the questions asked by some of the students: “Can we do an exchange like this every year?” The students answered “Definitely!”
