If you ask the pupils who came to the careers fair at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule from Hall or further afield this year for their opinion, you will hear adjectives such as surprising, exciting, varied or wide-ranging. And rightly so, because with ninety companies and a total of over 200 training occupations and courses of study, it was the largest careers fair in the whole of Baden-Württemberg. Accordingly, Lord Mayor Daniel Bullinger also emphasized the supra-regional significance of the event in his speech.
Sometimes alone, sometimes accompanied by their parents – but mostly in the company of their friends – the young people were drawn to Schulstraße, the assembly hall and the school’s courtyard on Saturday, October 21. One pupil described the event as “surprisingly large”, having come to the fair more by chance to “just get a few impressions”, as he said himself, “you remember the companies, maybe I’ll come back to them one day?”.
A group of young men from Schwäbisch Hall took a similar approach, wanting to be inspired by the wealth of opportunities on offer: “As a student, you don’t even know what careers there are,” explained one of the four.
Some others are much more determined. For example, two future high school graduates were looking for a way to earn money during their studies.
They envision working in a bakery or a pharmacy.
Two older pupils took a similar approach, using the opportunity to secure an internship directly with the state police: “Now I just have to apply,” explained one of them. He was already able to make contact directly.
There seems to be something for all visitors: orientation, inspiration, an internship, nice conversations or just a flyer from a company that you might come back to at some point. “It was worth it,” declared one of this year’s graduating students, laden with gift bags and smiling broadly. He now hopes to be accepted into the dual study program of his choice.
Now the stands at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule will be dismantled again and school operations will continue before the 2025 careers fair in two years’ time will once again be varied, exciting and surprising.
The thanks that the principal Mrs. Fürle expressed to the teachers Dagmar Zwilling and Jörg Vogt, who once again put this project together, are more than justified.
