Experiences from Sweden

The one week in Sweden was extremely stimulating. The Swedish school system has a clear priority that can be felt everywhere: children and young people should feel good. This includes plenty of exercise and good food. And despite this focus on well-being, the Swedish school system is very successful. Not in terms of tests comparing reading, writing and math skills, where they have performed almost as poorly as Germany in recent years, but only because the skills that are taught in their schools are not tested, namely creativity, responsibility and self-satisfaction. The success of the Swedish school system is the empowerment of children and young people, which enables them to lead successful lives. Sweden has the most start-ups in the world, and not only Volvos come from Sweden, but also Spotify.

The pictures show school rooms, although they are photographed without pupils for data protection reasons. It is characteristic of the architecture of Swedish schools that the premises also show that it is considered very important in Sweden that schools offer spaces in which children and young people feel comfortable and which give them the opportunity to develop. On display:

1. there are group rooms that can be booked digitally by students.

2. in this classroom, students learn to make films that they need, for example, for the development of video games.

3. the recreation areas are designed according to the needs of the pupils. In addition to table soccer, there are also board games. There were no traditional sports lessons at this school, instead the pupils booked training sessions in a fitness room that was always open. There were also regular ball games on offer.

4. schools must also provide lunch and snacks for all pupils.

5 The Wasa is the most visited museum by Swedish school classes and the Swedes are very proud of this ship, which sank on its maiden voyage in Stockholm harbor.

6 The libraries are also places that are very inviting and are also used for quiet work.
