„The time with you has been wonderful! It’s probably best to go now, we can’t bear to see tears. Warm regards and goodbye.“
Surrounded by festive flower arrangements, the 121 graduating pupils of the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule receive their certificates on Friday, 18 July. As in the previous year, the graduates of the Realschule leaving examination and the Hauptschule leaving examination celebrate their achievements together. Their teachers, parents and friends gather in the Hagenbach-Halle for a varied programme followed by refreshments.
After a moving musical opening by the school band, led by Markus Schneider, the welcome speech follows. Several pupils from the graduating year groups then guide the audience through an entertaining programme of music, dance, speeches and, of course, the certificate presentations.
„You’ve finally made it! One last time, you have to listen to a teacher. Spare yourselves the wait for the bell, because from today you won’t need it any more!“ With these words and a little smile, the teachers of the Year 9 classes begin their speech and talk about the many happy experiences they have shared. „Think back to the Borrow Ranch with the spooky night hike, and also to the overnight stays at the wildlife park or at the winter camp, full of games and fun“, recalls Lisa Jährling, form teacher of class 9f. Now it is time for the teachers to let go. And so they wish their pupils a great deal of luck, friendship, health and much more on their future path in life. They end their address by singing together a song by the „Toten Hosen“: „The time with you has been wonderful! It’s probably best to go now, we can’t bear to see tears. Warm regards and goodbye.“
The form teachers of the Year 10 classes also recall shared experiences and congratulate the pupils on passing their examinations. They too have prepared something very special for their pupils. They show various holiday photos. Alongside these impressions, they send their best wishes to their pupils. Alexander Enderle, form teacher of class 10c, shows a photograph of a floodlight mast that is barely visible behind the many leaves and bushes surrounding it. For him, this photo symbolises many beautiful rays of light and the necessary „clear view through the jungle of everyday life“. He wishes both of these to his pupils with all his heart.
The highlight of the evening is, of course, the presentation of the certificates, for which the young people walk onto the stage to a song of their own choice. Leonie Brandt achieved the best Realschule certificate with an overall average of 1.6. Liam Pilz can be proud of the best Hauptschule leaving certificate with an average of 1.8. The social prize for outstanding social commitment in Year 10 is received by Makayla Bryant. The social prize for Year 9 pupils goes to Elias Miermeister.
After the prize presentation, a musical highlight follows from the music profile course of Year 10, led by Jannis Krämer. The song „Where’d all the time go?“ was worked on during lessons and fits the theme of the whole evening perfectly. The pupils were also supported on stage by their form teachers. Together they sang: „Where has all the time gone? It’s starting to slip away. See how our hands wave goodbye.“
The headteacher, Andrea Fürle, then addresses the gathering in her speech. She quotes the Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius: „The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.“ This means that the quality of our thoughts largely determines how happy we are in life. She explains that every moment is transient, the sad ones as well as the happy ones. After these memorable words, she wishes all the graduates every success on their future path and thanks them for their time at school. The celebration ends with the Coldplay song „Fix You“, performed by the music profile choir under the direction of Markus Schneider and Jannis Krämer.
