First Team Player Day at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule
Anyone walking through the school building of the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule on Monday, 22 July 2024 might be surprised by the various stations in the classrooms, corridors and sports halls. Everywhere, groups of young people of different ages can be found working as a team to carry egg-shaped plastic objects through an obstacle course, cross an imaginary jungle using strips of carpet or guess well-known songs.
The Team Player Day is celebrating its debut this school year. The organisers, Jannis Krämer and Louise Ehrmann, both teachers at the school, are primarily responsible for planning and running the day. Speaking about how the idea came about, Jannis Krämer says: „Wir wollen einen Tag planen für die Gemeinschaft, etwas etablieren, was die Schülerinnen und Schüler zusammenwachsen lässt.“ He stresses that the focus is first and foremost on working together. Louise Ehrmann adds that such a shared event helps pupils identify with the school community.
This means that the entire school community is involved in the event. Every single teacher either looks after a station or is responsible for catering, for example. The extended organising team also includes the school social workers Katrin Brucker and Tim Cornelius, head of department Achim Knaak and the teachers Constanze Salomon, Antonios Anastassatos, Ivonne Fischer, Yulia Okhrimenko and Marco Dierolf, as well as the trainee teachers Flin Noller and Ribanna Tsehaye. Dagmar Zwilling and Antil Öztürk contacted the event’s sponsors. The Team Player Day received financial support and prizes in kind from the following companies and organisations: Förderverein der Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule (the school’s support association), Sparkasse, Breitner, AWO, Schmitt Gruppe, Adolf Würth GmbH, Stadtwerke and Eiscafé Venezia in Schwäbisch Hall.
Keziah Rieker, Kl. 10c, who took charge of a group of pupils, confirms: „Es macht Spaß, in der Gruppe zu arbeiten. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler sind motiviert und die Stationen sind gut aufgebaut.“ He particularly emphasises that the group got on well and that the atmosphere was very positive. Louise Ehrmann also confirms that it was especially lovely for her to see how the pupils paid attention to showing respect for one another and supported and encouraged each other at the stations.
The grand finale of the Team Player Day is a drone photo of the entire school community and a speech by Andrea Fürle, the headteacher of the school. A special highlight follows on the last day of school, namely the prize-giving and award ceremony for the winning groups.
