In year group 10, pupils either study at M level and take the intermediate school leaving certificate (Realschulabschluss, i.e. Mittlere Reife) at the end of Year 10, or they work at E level and have the opportunity to specifically prepare for the Abitur.
Goal: Realschulabschluss/Mittlere Reife
For pupils in Year 10 who will sit the Mittlere Reife examination at the end of the school year, the focus is on targeted preparation for the written examination subjects German, Mathematics and English, as well as the optional subject AES, French or Technology. Learning takes place either within the class or in newly formed courses for individual subjects.
Goal: Abitur
Pupils aiming for the Abitur either continue in their existing class or in newly formed learning groups, working at E level in individual subjects, and at the end of Year 10 they have the opportunity to move up into the sixth form (Year 11) under the promotion regulations for grammar schools (gymnasiale Versetzungsordnung).
