Class 6a of the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule travelled by train in the week before the Shrove Holidays, from Hessental station via Crailsheim to Niederstetten station, and then walked on to Pfitzingen. On site, the class was welcomed as staff members of the school farm for the next five days.
After lunch and a first tour of the farm, work started straight away. There were three to four work sessions a day in small groups of about two hours each. Between the work sessions there was a delicious meal and a break. “Kitchen duty is fun. It feels great when everyone enjoys what you have cooked yourself,” said Omer and Hasan proudly.
In the barn there were cows, calves, goats, sheep, pigs, a horse and chickens, as well as lots of cats. They mucked out, fed the animals and milked. The staff on site explained and showed everything in detail. “We milked a cow today!” “And we milked a goat!” many pupils said in the closing circle in the evening, describing their highlight of the day. Jana even wished: “Can I please do barn duty again? That was so lovely!?”
On the day of departure, everyone was happy and content that they had been able to experience and do so much new and exciting things this week, thanks to the staff of the Pfitzingen school farm! Nobody missed their mobile phone, which stayed at home for the entire days!
