Full of anticipation, the new Year 11 cohort of the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule set off for their welcome days at the Geislinger Mühle from 16 to 18 September 2025. Accompanied by their form tutors Natalie Brümmer and Franziska Hentschel as well as head of department Achim Knaak, the pupils experienced three varied days full of team spirit, exchange and motivation for the start of the sixth form.
The group walk from Untermünkheim to the Geislinger Mühle – along the picturesque Kocher valley – already created a relaxed atmosphere and many first conversations. On site, various getting-to-know-you games were on the programme on Tuesday afternoon, which helped the group bond quickly.
What stood out in particular was how open and friendly the 35 pupils were towards one another. The three new classmates were also warmly welcomed. “This is a really lovely group – everyone is really looking forward to the sixth form!” sums up Franziska Hentschel, form tutor of Year 11 b, enthusiastically.
A key focus of the welcome days was on learning strategies and mindset. Under the guidance of head of department Achim Knaak, the pupils worked through various learning modules on questions such as: What mindset do I have? – How can I develop further? – Which strategies help me with deep learning? The interest and active participation of the group showed that many are ready to consciously work on their learning behaviour.
On Wednesday, another workshop session followed, focusing on coping with stress, motivation and dealing with setbacks. The young people reflected on what expectations they have for the coming three years and what drives them to take on the challenges of the sixth form.
Of course, the sense of community was not neglected either: together they cooked, tidied up, and in the evenings there was plenty of laughter over barbecues, poker and board games. The highlight was an atmospheric night hike through the forest with torches – a lovely finale to three successful days.
Full of new impressions and a stronger sense of community, the Year 11 pupils finally returned – ready for the exciting time of the sixth form.
