Welcome ceremony for the Year 5 pupils at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule

Pride and anticipation can be seen on the faces of the new Year 5 pupils on Monday, 11 September, as they are welcomed by their new form teachers and the headteacher, Andrea Fürle. In total there are 127 new pupils who will learn and work individually at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule and who can try things out to discover their own strengths. The teachers’ welcome song, “Mach, was du am besten kannst” (“Do what you do best”), encourages them on this journey.

In her welcome speech, Andrea Fürle warmly welcomes the children, parents and relatives, and is pleased to be able to tell the parents that, despite the teacher shortage at German schools, no lessons at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule will be cancelled for the new Year 5 pupils.

The school social workers Katrin Brucker and Tim Cornelius then present their work at the school and hand out flyers and business cards so that contact can be made in advance. While the children move into their new classrooms together with their teachers, the parent representative Timo Hack speaks directly to the parents and encourages them to get involved in projects and help shape school life.

The Year 5 pupils now have a getting-to-know-you week ahead of them, in which they can playfully come together as a class community and find their place in it.
