Fun and adventure for the new Year 5 pupils on the get-to-know-you day at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule

Once again this year, on 13 September, the time had come: the social work team, made up of Tim Cornelius and Katrin Brucker, invited the new Year 5 classes of the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule to a day full of shared games and adventures. Teamwork, a delicate touch, creativity and cleverness were all called for. After warm-up and get-to-know-you games, the first big activity in small groups was the “tower building” task. Armed with just 20 uncooked spaghetti and one metre of adhesive tape, the pupils had to build the highest possible tower crowned with a marshmallow. This year, one group made up of pupils from several classes even managed to leave the old school record of 63 cm far behind with an impressive 73 cm, an achievement that would make many an architect turn green with envy. The exciting finale of the day was “egg packing” in groups within each class. Eggs had to be wrapped only in paper and string and survive a drop from a ladder and a stage. One thing is certain: even though one or two eggs did break, the first unbreakable bonds of many new friendships among the Year 5 pupils were certainly forged here.
