On 25 and 27 March 2025, the joint substance awareness days of the Schulzentrum West for all Year 7 pupils took place again this school year. On these days, the pupils were able to choose workshops from a varied programme on the topic of addiction. The workshops were set up by the Schwäbisch Hall Youth Addiction Counselling Service, the Diakonie’s addiction counselling service, the mobile youth work and school social work of the town of Schwäbisch Hall, and teachers from both schools.
The workshop “Yoga – Chillen statt Stress” (Yoga – Chilling instead of Stress), for example, was about avoiding stress in advance through physical exercises and breathing techniques. Kristin Hiller, a yoga teacher at the Turn- und Sportverein Braunsbach and a teacher at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule, was especially pleased that the pupils embraced the physical exercises. Anil Öztürk, also a teacher at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule, addressed the problem of sugar in his workshop “Back dich glücklich” (Bake yourself happy). Delicious muffins were of course still baked, and these were actually completely free of refined sugar, with the sweetness coming from the bananas that were used.
Tim Cornelius, school social worker at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule and co-organiser, summed up: “Every year I am delighted anew by the impulses and ideas the pupils take away from this day. I think it was a successful day entirely under the banner of substance prevention.”
