Visit by class 6c to the Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum after dagger find

On 4 June 2025, class 6c of the Johannes Brenz Gemeinschaftsschule went to the Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum in Schwäbisch Hall. The aim was to bring history lessons to life with the help of historical objects and stories told by museum staff member Lorenz Hafner, and also to see a dagger that two pupils from the class had found and handed in to the museum. The young people visited the museum’s different sections. Starting in antiquity, moving through the Middle Ages and up to the second half of the 20th century, they took in a broad sweep of history across the centuries.

This overview was also illustrated by historical objects. The dagger already mentioned revealed some very interesting details about its owner. “According to research so far, it is the dagger of a Luftwaffe officer of the Wehrmacht, made around 1937 in Solingen. It is highly likely that the owner disposed of it in the Kocher towards the end of the war or in the period afterwards, in order to conceal his role in the Nazi regime,” said Lorenz Hafner.

That it was then found by chance 80 years later in the Kocher by pupils Cedric Alber and Tim Schieber and handed in to the Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum is a remarkable event and a valuable addition for the museum.
