About the school

The Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule is an educational institution that offers pupils a comprehensive educational pathway up to the Abitur. In educating our pupils, we place great emphasis on holistic development that encompasses all aspects of their personality.

Our school offers:

  • Special needs educators
  • Preparatory classes for pupils with a migration background

Our high-achieving and socially just comprehensive school

Our school focuses on:

  • Individual support for every child and young person
  • Valuing diversity as an asset
  • Optimal opportunities to develop one’s own abilities
  • Modern teaching with a focus on individual and collaborative learning

Preparation for the upper secondary level (Gymnasiale Oberstufe):

  • A well-prepared school community
  • Working methods from the comprehensive school are continued in the upper secondary level
  • The concept of longer shared learning as a sensible finishing touch
  • Pupils from other schools are optimally prepared

Coaching conversations to develop important skills:

  • From Year 5 onwards, we encourage independent learning and motivate our pupils to shape their learning processes on their own.
  • Pupils learn to organise and structure themselves
  • The ability to set and pursue goals
  • Developing skills that many students lack
  • Structured, self-directed learning as a special feature of the school

Making the most of your own abilities

Our school enables every child and young person to make the most of their own abilities. Individual support and a modern educational concept are at the heart of this. Our pupils are also very well prepared for the move into the upper sixth form, as the working methods from the Gemeinschaftsschule are continued there too. Coaching sessions help pupils develop important skills such as independent learning and goal setting. Structured, self-directed learning is one of our special features and prepares pupils for a successful future.

Goals

Our aim is to help pupils become self-confident, responsible individuals with a healthy and alert mind who can hold their own in society.

The three-year upper sixth form at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule leads to the General University Entrance Qualification (Abitur).

The route to the Abitur at our Gemeinschaftsschule runs over a 9-year educational pathway, with Year 11 used as an ‚introductory phase‘.

Teaching in the upper sixth form is provided exclusively by teachers with a qualification to teach at Gymnasium level.

To obtain the Abitur, pupils must take a second foreign language in Year 11. Pupils who have not previously taken a profile subject, or who have taken a profile subject that our school does not offer, take one lesson of physics instead.

Pupils who can attend the upper sixth form of the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule:

Pupils with intermediate level after the Realschule leaving examination (with at least 2.0 in two of the subjects German, Maths, English, at least 3.0 in the third, and an average of at least 3.0 in all subjects relevant for promotion)

  • Pupils with a promotion certificate at extended level: (average of 4.0 or better across all subjects relevant for promotion; average of at least 4.0 in the core subjects, no grades of 6.0 in the core subjects)
  • Pupils from Gymnasien who have successfully completed at least Year 9

We look forward to welcoming you to our school!
