What values should my school stand for?

„Starting together, learning together.“ Starting together is – true to this motto – a first and essential building block in the concept of the upper secondary level (gymnasiale Oberstufe) at the Johannes-Brenz-Gemeinschaftsschule. For this reason, the Year 11 classes of the Gemeinschaftsschule began the new school year with three getting-to-know-you days. On 11 September 2023, 33 of the 37 upper secondary pupils met at Schwäbisch Hall-Hessental station and set off on their journey. After arriving in Murrhardt, they made their way together with the accompanying teachers over hill and dale to the destination of the hike – Schloss Ebersberg. After the lunch break, class teacher Jörg Vogt introduced them to the project theme of the three-day stay: „What is the perfect school for me?“ Head of department Achim Knaak then took the pupils on a „values flight“ to reflect on which values are important to them and why. On the following day, the pupils worked on their project theme. In addition, a workshop on democracy education was offered to them by school social worker Tim Cornelius. Elisa Rothenberger, also a teacher at the school, added further workshop offerings on the topic of „mindfulness“. The project presentations on the last day formed the grand finale of the getting-to-know-you days, before the journey home began with the class teachers Lisa Jährling and Johannes Albert.
